Make Tech Easier has an excellent tutorial on configuring the Firefox web browser.

There is no substitute for reading the settings and options available and adjusting them as you see fit. Articles such as this are a good starting point, but ultimately, YOU make choices that work best for you.

Or come to a SWLAPCUG meeting where browser security/settings/add-ons/practices are a frequent topic of conversation and discussion.
