Formatting a URL in BBCode

Postby TomTom » Thu Oct 13, 2016 9:44 pm

When creating (or editing) a post on our website you may want to enter a URL (web address). Note this also applies to PMs (Private Messages). There are several ways to do this, as below.

The simplest method is to simply type the URL like this:

Code: Select all

or this:

Code: Select all

No codes are needed, as BBCode will automatically display it as a clickable hyperlink. If you want to make sure, you can enclose it in URL tags like this:

Code: Select all

A quick way to do that is to first click the URL tag in the formatting bar, then paste your URL, as the cursor is already in between the opening and closing URL tags. OR use your mouse to select the already entered URL, then click the URL tag in the formatting bar, and it will automatically put the tags in the right place.

There are times, however, when you would like to create a hyperlink without displaying the actual URL, especially if it is a long one. The method to do this is ALMOST the same, except that the TEXT for the URL goes in between the opening and closing URL tags, and the actual URL gets put inside the opening URL tag, following an equal sign.
Here is an example:

Code: Select all

[url=]Our Club[/url]

In the example, the text "Our Club" becomes the clickable hyperlink which goes to the actual URL:

Code: Select all

Entering the text can be done as above, either click the URL tag first, then enter your text, or enter your text first and highlight. Either way, however, you need to put the equal sign and the actual URL 'INSIDE' the opening URL tag, just after the letter L.

Here is the example as it will appear in your post:
