Downloading Software

Postby TinyJWRinLC » Tue May 31, 2016 2:21 am

With the exception of number 7, I can say I agree with this list from Make Use Of. I don't think I've downloaded anything from the Window's Store.

The 7 Worst Places for Downloading Windows Software

They also have a list of recommended sites.

I agree with all of the 7 to avoid, but like the last commenter, I DO use C-Net to read reviews, but never download from there.

The 9 good sites article is interesting in that there were 2 that I never heard of: FilePuma and FileHorse. I may have to check those out. I do agree with the other 7 that were mentioned.

I haven't checked yet, but How To Geek is a pretty reliable source:

Great news, but...
"Of course, there’s also no public promise that the installer program won’t be restarted at some future date."
and...
"The website is still full of misleading advertisements with “Start Download” buttons that attempt to trick users into downloading the wrong program."

I think I will stick with my old habit of using them strictly for the program descriptions and reviews, but downloading from more reliable sources.
