RSS feeds in Chrome

Postby TomTom » Wed Dec 30, 2015 5:19 pm

Reading an RSS feed in Chrome is generally possible only by installing an extension, as it does not have "Live" bookmarks like Firefox. If you simply enter an RSS feed address such as "" in Chrome you will see a page of gibberish text.

My 2 favorites extensions to find and/or view RSS feeds are:

RSS Feed Reader - Get a simple overview of your RSS and Atom feeds in the toolbar.
This is a simple and pretty way of keeping track of your latest RSS and Atom feeds. Inspired by Firefox's Live Bookmarks, RSS Feed Reader adds a button to your Chrome's toolbar, where you can add your own RSS feeds, such as I like this one best for quick access to the SWLAPCUG feed and a handful of others.

RSS Subscription Extension (by Google) - Adds one-click subscription to your toolbar.
This extension auto-detects RSS feeds on the page you are reading and upon finding one will display an RSS icon in the Omnibox, allowing you to click on it to preview the feed content and subscribe. I like this one to see if a site has a feed, and to see what it may be.
The extension comes with 2 feed readers predefined (Bloglines and My Yahoo) but also allows you to add any web-based feed reader of your choice to the list.
Bloglines is dead and should be removed in the options, and My Yahoo did not seem to work for me, but you can add others, including Feedly, which works well. To add Feedly use the URL "", or if you want a secure connection, use "" (note the httpS). Note that Feedly is promoting paid subscriptions, but if you decline their "awesome discount", the next time you will go right to the subscription section.

Other highly rated extensions that I have not tried:

The RSS Aggregator adds an RSS reader like in the Opera browser.

Feedbro by the description and images, seems to be similar to RSS Feed Reader.
